                         years of net art , as well as an essay by himself in which he reveals

                         his concern for the preservation of digital art .

                             In general, however, the lack of resources and the country’s
                         peripheral nature made it difficult for Portuguese artists to regularly
                         participate in the international scene of the dynamic mailing lists
                         and platforms, as well as in important exhibitions, i.e. events that
                         promoted an open dialogue about the Internet in a multidisciplinary
                         and global context. Nevertheless, we can see that some artists have
                         stood out in the international new media scene. For example, Miguel
                         Leal presented The Revolting Museum at the 9  edition of
                                                                                th
                         the International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA) 98 in Liverpool
                         and Manchester, and acted as a jury member at the Transmediale
                         Festival in Berlin. In collaboration with V_2 Rotterdam, Leal was
                         also responsible for the Links/Ligações/Liaisons award as part of
                         the Porto – Rotterdam European Capitals of Culture in 2001. In
                         2000, Galeria Zé dos Bois [curated by Cláudia Castelo, Francisca
                         Bagulho, Manuel Henriques and António Silveira Gomes] partici-
                         pated in the Sister Spaces exhibition project organised by
                         Southern Exposure in San Francisco, with the online exhibition Go
                         to Frisco, which involved thirty-seven Portuguese artists and the
                         creation of new works. Miguel Carvalhais has also been very active
                         outside Portugal with the @c project and the Austrian artist Lia, with
                         whom he curated, for example, Medialounge, the online section
                         of the exhibition, Abstraction Now at Künstlerhaus Wien in
                         Vienna in 2003. In recent years, Portuguese artists who have lived or
                         live outside Portugal, such as Filipe Vilas-Boas, Rui Filipe Antunes,
